Become a walker and support 25 years of love for elders

The Meals on Wheels Walkathon will turn 25 on the beautiful Greenfield Community College campus on Saturday, April 29, from 8 to 11 a.m. Every spring for twenty-five years, our community has come together to make sure no elder has to feel alone, forgotten, or hungry.

Funds raised at the Walkathon help make it possible for every elder who needs a home-delivered hot meal and wellness check to get one right away. Because federal and state funds are limited, many Meals on Wheels programs across the country have long waiting lists (some up to six months!) for elders who are unable to prepare their own meals to get a hot meal delivered at home.

You can celebrate and support elders in Franklin County and the North Quabbin by signing up for the 25th Annual Meals on Wheels Walkathon. To help make this silver anniversary of our community’s love for elders extra special, WHAI 98.3 will broadcast live from the event, and Greenfield Savings Bank is adding a $25 bonus to all pledges walkers gather, up to $7,000. Walkers can sign up on the phone, by mail, or online starting two months before the event. In the weeks leading up to April 29, walkers simply ask their family, friends, and coworkers to help out and are often amazed by the response. So many people want to be generous to elders and to make pledges to Meals on Wheels.

Fabienne Allen of Greenfield said, “It was amazing to see so many caring and loving people with a common goal of supporting a great program.”

On day of the Walkathon, everyone – from young families, elders in their 80s, dancers, musicians, and more – will come to Greenfield Community College campus to walk and/or sit together, to celebrate, to entertain, and to enjoy one another’s company. Join us in showing elders how much we care for them by signing up for the 25th Annual Meals on Wheels Walkathon!
