This past June, a class of five new volunteers graduated from the SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) Program’s eight-week-long spring training session: Judy Curley of Orange, who will volunteer at Athol Memorial Hospital; Lisa Harris of Greenfield, who will volunteer at the Greenfield Senior Center; Michael Naldrett of Hawley, who will volunteer at the LifePath offices in Greenfield; Lauren Soules of Hadley, who will be volunteering in the Westfield area; and Rebecca White of Orange, who will be volunteering at the Orange Senior Center.
Coming from different walks of life, these men and women completed their course with an intensive exam, successfully passing and graduating on Wednesday, June 22, as certified SHINE counselors.
A small graduation ceremony was held for the graduates, who each received a certificate of achievement, a rose, and a gift certificate redeemable at several shops in Greenfield as tokens of appreciation. An afternoon luncheon followed, with food and desserts from D’Angelo’s of Greenfield.
As SHINE Counselors, they all will be able to work in their own communities to provide free, unbiased health insurance information, education, and assistance services to Medicare beneficiaries and adults with disabilities.
