Chronic Pain Self-Management

The Chronic Pain Self-Management workshop series provides participants who live with chronic pain (often caused by arthritis, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, or CRPS) with the tools, skills and confidence needed to manage the challenges of living well with chronic pain.

CPSM was developed by the Stanford Patient Education Research Center. It is an evidence-based program that has been researched and proven to have positive results for participants. Subjects addressed include:

  • Techniques for dealing with frustration, fatigue, depression, isolation and poor sleep
  • Exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • Appropriate use of medications
  • Effective communication with family, friends and health professionals
  • Strategies for healthy eating and better nutrition
  • Pacing activity and rest
  • Evaluating new treatments

Workshops are highly interactive, provide mutual support and build participants’ confidence to manage their pain and remain active. Caregivers and family members are also welcome in the program. Workshops meet weekly for six weeks.
