Well, in typical New England fashion, the weather has certainly thrown us some curve balls in the last few weeks as we try to emerge from the winter season. I normally mark the change of the seasons like others by acknowledging the vernal equinox indicating the official start of the spring season, but take it one step further in switching from hot coffee to iced coffee as the temperatures warm up. Lately, however, it’s been a real rollercoaster of a ride switching back and forth as temperatures fluctuate so drastically from day to day.
Almost everywhere you look these days, things are constantly changing and can bring about a large array of emotions across the board. However, despite these notions, I find that spring has such an air of positivity. Things like budding trees, opening day at Fenway, flowers in bloom, longer days of daylight, and even brief outdoor walks with your dog and/or best friend are all wonderful signs that warmer, more pleasant days are just around the corner. I hope that you have an opportunity to at least open the windows to let in some fresh air and perhaps get outside to see firsthand the new spring season come alive.

As I write this article, it’s a warm, beautiful day outside and of course I am sipping on an iced coffee. Spring is certainly on its way without a doubt, but as it takes its slow and steady time to fully arrive, it’s almost like it’s trying to tell us to slow down and to be more patient with whatever challenges may lay across our path.
For me, in times of uncertainty, I often try to focus on the positive people and actions going on around me. My family, friends, co-workers, community at large, and the wins here at LifePath. Did you know that incredibly impactful moments happen each and every day here at LifePath? That’s right! Here is just a small list to start: volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers providing a wellness check and delivering a warm, nutritious meal to over 550 people each day, Monday through Friday; staff visiting with older adults who need some support in our Money Management program; or the over 1,700 people who we support through our Home Care program each year. Let’s not forget our Information and Caregiver Resource Center (ICRC) staff who answered nearly 10,000 calls last year. And the list goes on. Everywhere you turn, LifePath is always making a positive difference in and around our local community.
Through the combined efforts and compassionate support from dedicated staff, caring volunteers, collaborative community partners, and financial contributors, together we have helped to build and to provide valuable programs and services in support of those we serve. It’s one thing to hear about the positive difference that LifePath has made over the years through general conversations with people along the way, however when I get to hear firsthand from someone who has been directly helped by LifePath’s efforts, it puts it on an even more exciting level and makes me proud to be part of such an amazing team.
For most people reaching out to LifePath for the first time, their first contact will most likely be with one of our Information and Caregiver Resource Center consultants. When we work with individuals and families in helping to positively address the challenges in front of them, they gain a greater sense of stability and peace of mind in the process. No one should ever feel like they have to face these challenges alone. So, when you need a helping hand yourself or in caring for your loved one, please reach out to LifePath.
Recently, on a cold day I found myself grabbing a hot coffee in our breakroom only to find that we had run out of regular sugar. I recognize that this is not a major problem in the scheme of things, but this is where it gets interesting. At the same time, I just happened to be talking with one of our ICRC team members that knows all this great stuff about LifePath and other stuff too. They immediately said, “No problem! If you look in this small cabinet on the top shelf, all the way on the other side of the building, there should be some there in a small cup. Let me know if it’s still there.” Just like that, right off the top of their head, ready to help at a moment’s notice, problem potentially solved. And they were right!
My point is this. Here at LifePath our longevity and success in helping others has always been built on the knowledgeable, caring, and dedicated efforts of our staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners throughout the years. We do this with the cumulative experience and background to not only solve current challenges, but also to design systems and processes that aim to make our organization even better than it was before, as we offer guidance and support.
Collectively, local businesses and nonprofits look to adapt to the ever-changing climate surrounding State and Federal funding challenges. We must continue to strive forward in developing new and creative collaborations that allow us to deliver essential programs and services to our most vulnerable populations.
As we reflect on our longstanding history, we are truly grateful for the tremendous impact that LifePath has collectively been able to make with the help of so many throughout our community. As we look to the future, we continue to chart a course of renewed strength and resiliency with the help and support of our community and beyond. It is a powerful reminder that through steadfast determination, teamwork, and a collaborative spirit, we can in fact reach new heights, while always striving for a better tomorrow.
