Walkathon: Spotlight on Team Food Brood

We’ve said it before and we will say it again. Walkathon teams and their members are the heart and soul of LifePath’s annual Walkathon. They take action to secure the generosity of people they know in support of programs and services LifePath provides. We thank them for holding the people we serve at the center of their efforts.

Long-time family team Food Brood, formed in 2013, was initially inspired by the Meals on Wheels program. They had a family member with first-hand program experience, and team member Fabienne Allen has been inspired by the daily impact volunteer drivers have on recipients. “I think about the smile on the face of a recipient who otherwise wouldn’t have a meal or see a friendly face.” She continued, “I’m so glad that LifePath exists and that the people who require services are able to have their needs met.”

At first, members of Food Brood baked together and sold baked goods to raise funds. They also secured donations from friends, family, and co-workers. But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, they recognized that people were struggling and that made asking for support tough. Fabienne explained that her immediate family (husband Brian and four children) looked inward to figure out how to continue supporting LifePath in a complicated time.

Team Food Brood
Team “Food Brood” has been raising money for Meals on Wheels and other programs since 2013.

A big glass jar appeared in their kitchen for a household collection. Before Fabienne announced the jar’s purpose, one child had offered their own savings. They add earnings from returnable bottles and cans they collect. Pocket change makes it in.

Food Brood is an intergenerational team, with grandchildren through grandparents, and friends. It’s no wonder this team has placed high in the overall standings year after year. Their creativity and commitment to LifePath and those we serve are absolute gifts. (They have volunteered on event day, too!) Fabienne admitted, “It means even more this year since we haven’t done anything in the past two years due to COVID. We are all looking forward to feeling like we are part of a community again.”

We are excited that new teams have formed and returning teams are at work! To recognize the effort of individual or team fundraisers, t-shirts will be awarded to those who fundraise $100 or more. Earn them for yourself, your teammates, your family, or others! T-shirts will also be available for purchase on event day.

Teams, All Together Now!
